Description:
"Bezhin Meadow" was a planned Soviet film about a young farm boy who tries to prevent his father from sabotaging the harvest in a political act of betrayal against the government. The son's attempts to stop his father lead to the father's death and a resulting social uprising. Directed by Sergei Eisenstein, the production mirrored his previous film, "Que Viva Mexico," with escalating costs and extended filming. Eisenstein's use of experimental techniques angered his superiors, who ordered the film's destruction before completion. Only the first and last frames of each shot survived, preserved by Eisenstein’s wife. A 1967 reconstruction by Naum Kleiman and Sergei Yutkevich arranged these frames to approximate the original film.
