Denmark, once among the world's most naturally rich countries after Bangladesh, has seen its wild nature drastically decline since the 1980s. Now, with less than two percent of its original wild habitats remaining, urgent action is needed. The Danish Nature Foundation has acquired a significant plot in Hammer Bakker, a former production forest, with the ambitious goal of restoring it to a thriving wild ecosystem – a place of tall grasses and butterflies, perhaps even golden eagles. But the question remains: how do you rewild a landscape so long shaped by human cultivation?
