Luxury (2018)

Across New York and global cities, luxury apartment buildings are rapidly transforming skylines. For a year, filmmaker Todd Verow documented the construction of several such structures. The resulting film, featuring a haunting score composed by Verow himself, presents a non-narrative reflection on the emptiness of the term "luxury" when applied to basic housing. When everything is considered luxury, the concept loses all meaning. As inequality widens dramatically, the film suggests a stark either/or: luxury or destitution, with nothing in between.
