Description:
In 2018, the 1st & 2nd EPA.L. Agia Paraskevi school relocated to a modern new building after more than 20 years in a dilapidated and unsafe one. The old building was so unsound that students were literally interacting with chickens near it, and the school council principal described how students felt like they themselves were being treated like chickens. Construction of the new building stalled when the original contractor ran out of funds, leaving it abandoned mid-construction for over five years, during which time it was looted and vandalized. With the situation at a standstill, the students took initiative by directly appealing to the mayor, which brought their concerns to the attention of the school administration. Years later, a second contractor was hired to finish the project, finally allowing the school to open in its new facility.
