The Palace (2022)

This short film weaves together a hidden recording of my father and grandmother discussing the British tradition of breaking into royal homes. The conversation is layered with Super 8 footage my grandfather shot in the 1960s, iPhone footage I filmed revisiting London locations from a family trip after they passed, and a 16mm reel of 1930s city scenes and Buckingham Palace discovered in a junk shop. The film’s contrasting historical footage and recent family images – including those of a loved one who has since died – create a quiet reflection on youthful anticipation and the inevitable barriers that life presents as we grow older.
