To get his first film made, ambitious director Maxim reluctantly agrees to the producer's demands, resulting in significant changes to his script. The final product is unrecognizable. Back home, Maxim discovers a bizarre effect: people's speech is replaced by a piercing "piiip," and nudity is obscured by black "patches" and blurry images. Even alcohol has lost its flavor and potency. It appears Maxim himself has become the source of his own censorship.
