Description:
The Gi Mihaq, or Kusunda, people of Nepal once lived as hunter-gatherers in the Dang district. They have since lost their native language, Mihaq (Kusunda), due to cultural changes and other factors. Gyani Maiya Sen-Kusunda, the last known fluent speaker, passed away in 2020. This documentary, filmed in 2018, is a record of her life and the history of her community, who were compelled to abandon their language and traditions. Now, Kamala Sen Khatri, Sen-Kusunda’s sister, and Uday Raj Aaley, a local researcher, are working to revive the Kusunda language.
