The Moon Is Gone (2001)

In 2001, Tsai Ming-liang directed an episode of the Taiwanese children's show Fruit Pie, a project he rarely mentions and isn't particularly fond of, likely a request from PBS. However, the episode contains familiar elements of Tsai's work, including Lee Kang-sheng as a dog that eats the moon. The title, "The Moon Has Disappeared," echoes his later short film "The Skywalk Is Gone." Set during the Moon Festival, the story is filled with references to the holiday and its associated myths.
