Description:

Lily Brest is a beautiful but detached streetwalker with few clients. She's in love with her idle boyfriend, Raoul, who squanders their meager earnings on gambling. The town's influential Jewish figure discovers Lily is a good listener and begins to enlist her help. Raoul becomes consumed by jealous fantasies about Lily and the powerful man, eventually leaving her for another. Lily's parents – her bitter Fascist cabaret singer mother and her wheelchair-bound mother – offer no support. Despite their shared philosophical outlook, the other prostitutes ostracize Lily for her willingness to accept everyone. Weary of her isolated existence, she seeks an escape, an act that ultimately benefits the very corrupt powers she despises.
