For a long time, Eastern Ukraine (like Donbas) has been described as part of a "Russian world," but this isn't accurate. The region’s history was altered during the Soviet period, with references to its European past removed from school and university textbooks. In reality, many European countries – including France, Belgium, Germany, Britain, Poland, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and the United States – established settlements there, and over 100 large businesses operated in the area. This film explores the European-oriented industrialization of Ukrainian Donbas at the end of the 19th century, highlighting Ukraine’s historical ties to Europe long before its 2022 integration with the EU.
