This work echoes Alÿs's earlier piece, *The Leak* (1996), where she walked a can of blue paint and displayed the empty container in a gallery. By setting *The Leak* in a geopolitical context, Alÿs shifts the focus from the formal aspects of art-making to questions of maps, territories, and the right to live in a place.
