Description:
This film explores the world of art historian Philippe-Alain Michaud through a series of fascinating connections. It links the architecture of New York with Venice, suggests a pre-cinema quality in Tintoretto's paintings, and sees the burlesque Cretinetti as a precursor to montage. Following Michaud's journey, the film moves from objects like oriental carpets to the development of film, and from early fireworks to cinema itself. It highlights the animation within images – in the projections of Antony McCall and Paul Sharits, Brancusi's Column without end, and Pasolini's Accatone. The film uses the work of Aby Warburg, a pioneering art historian, as a framework to illustrate Michaud's unique path, presenting eleven images to describe his singular career.
