1821 at the Cinema (2021)

Set in 1821, the film documents how the Greek Revolution has been portrayed in cinema from the early 20th century to today. Although the Revolution of 1821 is the foundational event of modern Greece, it's surprisingly underrepresented in Greek filmmaking. This documentary explores why, examining both periods when films focused on the Revolution and those when it was largely ignored. It analyzes the films about 1821 to understand how cinema shapes public understanding of history and influences collective memory.
