Finding Her Beat (2022)

During a harsh Minnesota winter, a Japanese drum master and a Korean adoptee from North Dakota team up to create a world-class all-female Taiko drumming group, challenging a tradition dominated by men. The project brings together accomplished drummers Tiffany Tamaribuchi, Kaoly Asano, Chieko Kojima, Megan Chao-Smith, and Jennifer Weir. As they endure intense rehearsals, Jennifer helps them blend their unique talents and backgrounds, sharing personal stories of vulnerability, hardship, and happiness, forging strong friendships despite cultural, age, language, and performance style differences. With their debut performance approaching, it becomes evident that their journey transcends the world of Taiko drumming itself.
