Description:
In the lively port of Marseilles, César owns a local bar and cares deeply for his community. His circle includes M. Panisse, a sailmaker hoping to find a wife, and Honorine, a spirited fishmonger with her ambitious daughter Fanny. Marius, César's 23-year-old son, is close to Fanny but yearns for a life beyond Marseilles. Faced with choosing between love for Fanny and his desire for adventure, Marius is at a turning point when M. Panisse proposes to Fanny and a ship needs a deckhand.
