Lost for Words (1980)

This satirical film, set after the end of cities, pokes fun at common tropes in dystopian stories. The story centers on a young girl reciting from Marx while standing between cardboard trees – a bizarre scene contrasting with Alfa (Yehuda Safran), the last person who can read and write. Alfa unexpectedly appears on a TV interview, created by artist Jock McFadyen, providing a humorous backdrop for cameos. Alexe Sayle chats nonsensically with David Medalla and Oriel de Quadras while eating a Chelsea bun. Giles Leaman is shown reading endlessly, highlighting the film's examination of our need for order even in chaos. The film uses humor and absurdity to question traditional storytelling and challenge our ideas about society in a ruined world.
