Legend of Tianyun Mountain (1980)

During China's Cultural Revolution, Song Wei navigates a world of difficult relationships and changing allegiances. When her fiancé, Luo Qun, is wrongly accused of being a counter-revolutionary by Party official Wu Yao and sent to labor camps, Song Wei ends their engagement and eventually marries Wu Yao instead. Years later, as the political climate shifts and Wu Yao rises in power, Song Wei encourages him to help clear Luo Qun's name. However, Wu Yao is unwilling to revisit the past, which remains a painful memory for both Song Wei and Luo Qun. The film examines betrayal, forgiveness, and the influence of power during a turbulent time in Chinese history. It explores the complexities of personal connections against a backdrop of political upheaval, questioning loyalty, love, and the shifting nature of power.
