Kin (1981)

This intimate film follows Maria Konovalova as she journeys from her rural village to the city to see her daughter, Nina. Adjusting to city life, Maria confronts the differences between country and urban living and unearths long-hidden family conflicts. The film's Russian title, "Rodnya," echoes "Rodina," meaning "Motherland." This connection highlights three generations of women: Maria, representing the past; Nina, the present; and Irina, the future. Each woman’s experiences offer different perspectives on "home" and "Motherland," exploring how Russian identity evolves.
