Killing the Dead (2019)

In Paraguay under Stroessner's dictatorship, Pastor and Dionisio discover a living person, Mario, amidst a pile of corpses. As the World Cup takes place in Argentina, the two men are forced to confront their own values and what they believe is right. Experienced in burying the dead, Pastor and Dionisio have never intentionally taken an innocent life – until Mario's arrival. This presents them with a difficult moral choice that challenges their sense of justice. With winter approaching and the World Cup final near, the lives of these three men become connected within a system that routinely removes people without consequence. Their fates are now linked by the violence they have committed and the violence they may have to commit. The film examines morality and survival against the backdrop of political oppression, exploring the profound effects of power on individuals. It’s a compelling story that prompts viewers to consider the darker side of human nature and the choices we make when facing death.
