Gus is Still in the Army (1980)

The film follows someone who joins the military hoping to find themselves. During training in Northern Ontario, they develop a secret romance with a fellow soldier. Wanting to be with this person, they decide to leave the army early, recording their experiences on Super 8 film to share with their mother when they return home. But the story takes an unexpected turn, showing how life changes and personal growth, love, and sacrifice can alter our paths.
