Friedrichstadtpalast (1981)

In 1980, the historic Berlin Friedrichstadt-Palast is threatened with demolition due to structural problems. Its artistic director, Wolfgang E. Struck, reflects on the legendary performances held there – featuring stars like Louis Armstrong and Juliette Gréco. The theater's employees share their memories of working in this important space, adding to its long history. At the same time, a new Friedrichstadt-Palast is being built nearby. The film captures this period of change, exploring themes of memory and preservation as the city and entertainment industry evolve. Through conversations with Struck and his staff, we see their deep connection to the theater and the mixed emotions surrounding its transformation from an old landmark into a modern entertainment center.
