Die Schmuggler von Rajgrod (1980)

In the early 1900s, Jan Anskath and his half-brother Martin live in Rajgorod, a town on the Russian-Prussian border. They have a complicated relationship, united by their shared smuggling activities. Jan secretly transports banned books to inspire political change, while Martin is only interested in making money. He helps people escape to Russia without questioning who they are. But as their operations continue, it becomes clear that Martin is stealing from these refugees before turning them over to the Czarist authorities. As tensions rise, the brothers must confront their own values amidst deceit and exploitation.
