Description:
The Dredge family Christmas is predictably chaotic. Twelve-year-old Joey is struggling, recently expelled from school and grieving his father's death, further burdened by his mother’s new boyfriend and his stepbrother. His Christmas plans take a turn when his great-grandfather Albert arrives, recently released from prison. Sharing the beach house with this unconventional, often crude, eighty-year-old significantly alters Joey's perspective. Through bizarre events – including barbecuing the family dog and a self-burial – Joey learns valuable lessons from Albert, who, despite his flaws, may help him confront his past and look towards the future.
