Circus Maximus (1980)

During World War II, Carlotta, a determined circus owner, struggles to keep her troupe together and support her lover. She's forced into a dangerous situation: smuggling refugees and the renowned mathematician Professor Máté into Yugoslavia. Adding to the complexity, Carlotta's mentally ill son escapes from an asylum and joins the circus on their perilous journey. The film explores resilience, survival, and the lengths people will go to protect loved ones, set against the backdrop of a turbulent war and the unlikely bonds between these characters.
