Ali: An American Hero (2000)

*Ali* is an American television movie that aired on FOX in 2000. It follows key moments in the career of heavyweight boxer Muhammad Ali, played by David Ramsey. Beginning as Cassius Clay, the 1960 Olympic gold medalist, he ascends through the professional ranks to become heavyweight champion in 1964 with a surprising victory over Sonny Liston. The film explores the controversy surrounding his embrace of the Nation of Islam, his name change, his relationship with Malcolm X, and his refusal to serve in the Vietnam War. After losing his title, he regains it in 1974 in the famous "Rumble in the Jungle" against George Foreman in Zaire.
