A Scandal in Bohemia
7/10 by CinemaSerf April 16, 2026
Now I appreciate that this was one of the shorter stories submitted by 'Dr. Watson' to the 'Strand' magazine, but even so - trying to condense it into twenty minutes was still going to be quite an ask. It all starts when the gentlemen receive a visitor at their Baker Street lodgings. Judging by his entrance, he could have come straight from a performance of 'Phantom of the Opera' but after a few seconds of deduction, 'Holmes' (Eille Norwood) informs his colleague (Hubert Willis) that this is none other than King Wilhelm. To what did they owe the honour? Well HM is about to get married, but he …

Project Hail Mary

I thought that this was a great film! So many of the shots were amazing, but personally it felt like it took too long to really get going. The first hour had me a little uninterested and after that it quickly gained my attention!…

Malcolm in the Middle: Life's Still Unfair
5/10 by avoidparadox2 April 14, 2026
If you just want to see characters from the show one last time, you'll have a decent enough time. But if you were looking a story that really showcases family dysfunction in the way the show did, you'll be disappointed. I'm willing to bet a lot of this comes down to logistics. It's probably tough to coordinate the schedules of so many people and I'm guessing the reason there's not many scenes with the family together stems from that. It's just I think this kind of needed that. It all felt very low stakes and there was a surprisingly low amount of family shenanigans. I'm also not sure Malcolm i…

Outcome
2/10 by item April 14, 2026
It's difficult to understand how this actually did result in a finished movie. It has no character at all on almost any level, in terms of story or cinematography. If you'd see any experimental take they tried to play with and didn't succeed, I'd appreciate that, but you can't sense any. This is no rant, I just think it's a very miserable take on any topic and concept which they try to make part of their story.…

Avatar: Fire and Ash
9/10 by Chloe Jones April 15, 2026
I watched Avatar 3 time: Fire & Ash and I'm giving it a straight A+ 🔥 The visuals? Mind-blowing – Pandora has never looked this alive, every flame and wave feels real 😍 That ending left me speechless – emotional, epic, and perfectly sets up what's next James Cameron did it again... this is why we go to the movies! 👏✨…

House II: The Second Story
7/10 by Wuchak April 15, 2026
**_“Looks like you've got some kind of alternate universe in there or something”_** This is a self-contained sequel to the 1985 film featuring a different house and backstory, as well as a slightly lighter tone. It’s a fun horror comedy with horror tropes but not frightening at all, plus it includes a spirit of adventure in the manner of Indiana Jones or “Firewalker” from the previous year. Indeed, the fourth Indiana Jones installment borrowed the concept of the crystal skull found here. Redhead Amy Yasbeck was 24 during shooting, the youngest I’ve ever seen her. Meanwhile raven-…

Track of the Cat
6/10 by CinemaSerf April 15, 2026
This starts off quite promisingly as we arrive at the 'Bridges' family ranch high above the Colorado snowline. Elder brother 'Curt' (Robert Mitchum) and sibling 'Arthur' (William Hopper) are being dragged from bed in the early hours to track down a menacing panther that is snacking heartily on their stock. With the permanently sozzled father (Philip Tonge) no use for work nor ornament; their younger brother 'Harold' (Tab Hunter) hardly deemed any more fit and their matriarch (Beulah Bondi) fixing the breakfast, we quickly realise that this is not a family in harmony with each other. They know …

The Best of Everything
6/10 by CinemaSerf April 15, 2026
'Caroline' (Hope Lange) is at a loose end with her boyfriend (Brett Halsey) studying in the UK, so she takes up an opportunity to work at the esteemed 'Fabian' publishing company. She is to be secretary to one of it's editors, 'Miss Farrow' (Joan Crawford) and day one isn't exactly stellar. Her new boss turns out to be something of an harridan. Abrupt, rude and aloof: she offers 'Caroline' none of the welcome or sympathies she might have expected from a female boss. The more she looks a round her, the more she realises that most of the other ladies in the place are either content with their re…

You, Me & Tuscany
6/10 by CinemaSerf April 15, 2026
Anyone recall 'Made in Italy' (2020)? This has a similar vibe to it as it showcases the beauty of traditional rural Italian life as a backdrop to a quirkier than usual romance. 'Anna' (Halle Bailey) was an aspiring chef until her mother died from cancer and now she has rather lost her way (and her job and flat). Her best friend has been urging her to use her plane ticket to Italy but she has resisted until a chance hotel encounter with 'Matteo' (Lorenzo de Moor) in an hotel bar. He tells her enough about himself and his vineyard in Tuscany to inspire her to take the trip. She arrives in a beau…

California Schemin'
6/10 by CinemaSerf April 15, 2026
Based very loosely on a true story (or lie!), this tells the story of two Dundonian rappers - Gavin (Séamus McLean Ross) and Billy (Samuel Bottomley) - as they strive to escape the mundanity of their call-centre jobs and take their own earthy brand of street-poetry to an unreceptive music industry. They have tried all of the traditional methods of getting noticed, but it is now at the point where even record company receptionists are hanging up on them. That is when they hit on a idea. Why not pretend they are from California? How hard can it be? Well their first go doesn't get them very far, …
