**Witness for the Prosecution (1957)**
_Directed by Billy Wilder_
Billy Wilder's adaptation of Agatha Christie's courtroom drama is superbly crafted entertainment, a masterclass in pacing, performance, and the art of building suspense around a trial. Charles Laughton is phenomenal as Sir Wilfrid Robarts, the barrister defending Leonard Vole (Tyrone Power) against murder charges. The casting is perfect; Laughton was the ideal comic actor for the dry British wit, delivering every line with impeccable timing and cantankerous charm.
Wilder apparently added the nurse (played br…

The aptly named “Big Jim” (Clint Walker) has had enough of marshalling and so takes his family and heads off to Wyoming where he has been left some land. No sooner have they arrived than he discovers that his neighbours ain't so neighbourly. The “Curry” family, who carry quite a bit of weight in the town have their own eyes on his patch, and “Jed” (Keenan Wynn) is making few bones about his desires. Just to add to his woes, there's also an hungry bear on the warpath and it is making short work of the stock. Using the bear as an excuse, “Curry” hires in the bounty hunting “Cass” (Leo Gordon) wh…

“Jedediah Prentiss". What kind of a name is that? That is a problem faced by one of the astronauts preparing to board a space rocket to the moon in 1970. If he doesn't have a memorable name, who will ever remember him? This sets him thinking back through the history of aviation, and at it's famed pioneers from Icarus and his waxen wings through Montgolfier's ballooning and thence the Wright brother's first powered flight at Kittywake. Rather than just present us with a chronology of all things flying, this story allows "Prentiss" to imagine he is actually each of those men and against the narr…

It's one thing starting a musical composition from scratch, but when you actually have to make your own sheet of music upon which you place your clefs, crotchets and minims then it can only be more stressful for the conductor here. He is hoping to be able to play the 'Blue Danube' for us, but sadly one of his musical notes has spent a little too long with the 'Little Brown Jug' and this causes not so much a waltz as a roadblock. When the offending symbol emerges, hicoughing as he goes, the maestro sets off in hot pursuit and soon we see this sheet of music turn into something more akin to a ga…

The English language commentary to this documentary reminded me a little of one of those 'Pete Smith Specialities' where the description was provided with just a little bit of tongue in cheek - and here it works quite well. As Denmark's capital emerges from the 1950s, this shows us something of how it's million people live from day to day. It's packed full of statistics that were probably already out of date when it was released, but they do give us an illustration of just how crucial this city is as a port of trade, as a cultural and political centre and as the home for a diverse range of peo…

This is unlike other Documentaries I've watched before, even those being hosted and narrated by Sir Attenborough.
It feels like he's sharing piece of himself this time around, I've never in over 40+ years of watching these nature programs felt so much more than an education on the behavior and life of animals we share the planet with.
Sir Attenborough appears to Sharing more than just a story this time around and there will be moments that his voice cracks at what he is sharing about the lives of his story.
Any and All Nature Fans or Fans of
Sir Attenborough and his …

Lee Cronin’s The Mummy isn’t scary or memorable; it’s raunchy exploitation and over-orchestrated expired cheese. It is a horror film that reeks of nothing but ridiculousness. The sad part is there’s a decent enough concept buried somewhere within this vomit-drenched monstrosity and a killer ambiance that is borderline spine-tingling.

A beautiful poignant movie about human desire and contact that is forbidden in a restricted and oppressed society. Shows how the human heart struggles for connection under adversity. This one stays with me longer after the movie ends. very moving.…

Boring, waist of time. poor excuse for sci fi. pixar joke movie for kids maybe. but thought provoking, intelligent sci fi it is not. From the first scene, the slap stick tone sets the scene for the whole movie. was the director too scared of space where no one hears you scream? The dual timeline didnt work. the main character seemed like two different characters. it didn't ring true on any level. This film is nowhere near the likes of Interstella, Arrival or Moon. Its lego movie is space. such a shame. a real misfire.
Give it a miss. too long to be worth your time.…
