The Wizard of the Kremlin
6/10 by CinemaSerf April 23, 2026
I suppose to be fair to Paul Dano, he does have something of the look of an apparatchik to him, but otherwise he really fails to deliver anything of the complexities or menace in this depiction of the rise of Vladimir Putin. OK, so Jude Law doesn't exactly convince in that latter role, either, but at least he does resemble his man! "Vadim" (Dano) is an aspiring film-maker of no great skill who ends up working as a television producer just as Boris Yeltsin is beginning to lose his grip. His benefactor, billionaire Boris Berezovsky (Will Keen) convinces him that the next man for the job of Presi…

The Blue Trail
7/10 by CinemaSerf April 23, 2026
The Brazilian government has concluded that the best way to care for their elderly population is to send them all to a colony when they reach eighty. "Tereza" (Denise Weinberg) is a mere seventy-seven when she gets the call up - and she's not remotely interested in wearing a nappy for the rest of her life. She has plans. She wants to fly a plane. Her more pedestrian efforts to satisfy this demand are thwarted by her daughter who has to give permission for her to do pretty much anything. Undaunted, she takes the last wage check she gets from the abattoir where she worked and convinces boatman "…

Levitating
10/10 by Call Me Dunham April 23, 2026
THE MOST PERSONAL AND GROUNDBREAKING OF WREGAS’ WORKS. TRULY A MASTERPIECE. Man, this film is absolutely insane—in the best way possible. I felt completely satisfied, even with really high expectations going in. When I first read the synopsis, I honestly had no idea where the film was heading, but it still felt intriguing and incredibly exciting. It instantly became one of my most anticipated films. I still can’t wrap my head around how creative this film is in building its world. Wregas really brings the soul of this film to life by blending so many absurd elements together—and …

Day Watch
4/10 by Dr_Nostromo April 23, 2026
43/100 This sequel to "Night Watch" is far more comprehensible but far less organic or balanced. First off, it spent an enormous amount of time on this lack luster and lifeless romance between our 2 primary protagonists and secondly, at two and a half hours, the rest of this painfully overlong film was silly and a parody of itself. As such, you couldn't take it seriously for a minute. It even ended like a bad rom com. The fantastic action sequence near the end was certainly worth watching. Too bad I had to sit through over 2 hours of this to get there. Marginally entertaining. -- DrNost…

Dave Made a Maze
6/10 by Dr_Nostromo April 23, 2026
60/100 Alone for the weekend, Dave builds a cardboard maze in his living room which becomes an expansive, ever-growing labyrinth on the inside complete with tricks, traps and a Minotaur. This simple, imaginative idea was exceptionally well executed making this film quite a joyful experience. The characters were likable and it kept me fully engaged despite the fact that the film was losing it's luster about halfway through. Didn't care for the ending either but still quite a fun, unique and well worth a watch. -- DrNostromo.com…

Triple Threat
6/10 by Dr_Nostromo April 23, 2026
56/100 Taking place in SE Asia, it really doesn't matter what the plot is as it's just one action sequence after another involving guns, martial arts, threatening and a lot of machismo. The fights had fairly good choreography and were fun to watch. As far as the gun fights... massive amounts of firepower does make things exciting but it didn't appear that anyone could hit the side of a barn with a machine gun if it kicked them in the butt. I didn't quite understand people's motivations in some places but all in all, fun, exciting, fighting, shoot 'em up popcorn movie. -- DrNostromo.com…

Normal
7/10 by Chris Sawin April 22, 2026
Normal is a flawed action film, but it uses its basic concept effectively. Its throwaway characters are used to a kick ass and bullet-heavy advantage while the action is swift, brutal, and doesn’t overstay its welcome. This is a bite-sized action film that delivers unabbreviated destruction. https://bit.ly/BobNormal…

Wolf Girl
6/10 by Wuchak April 22, 2026
**_A girl with hypertrichosis comes-of-age at a traveling freakshow_** This takes the setting of “SideShow” from the previous year and adds a teen with excessive hair growth passed off as a ferocious half-animal girl that has to be confined to a cage. It’s basically a coming-of-age drama where the girl (Victoria Sanchez) is bullied for being an outcast yet also discovers romance and hope for a normal life. To be expected, there are some shocks, including amusing ones, as well as a bit o’ horror. Sanchez is actually a uniquely attractive woman. As for the rest of the cast, Tim Cur…

Ghost in the Cell
7/10 by Call Me Dunham April 22, 2026
The premise is really intriguing, and honestly, I was quite amazed by this film. It blends horror and comedy really well. But unfortunately, Joko Anwar doesn’t feel as strong when it comes to writing the third act it loses some of its impact. On top of that, the political satire and underlying themes are delivered a bit too on-the-nose. It feels very blunt, almost like listening to a public service announcement. Still, I can’t deny how impressive the film’s disturbing elements are. It’s rare to find something that can make you feel disgusted and mesmerized at the same time, the a…

The Image
8/10 by Martin Oaks April 22, 2026
**The culmination of eroticism** In one of his most daring works, Radley Metzger brings to the screen the sadomasochistic erotic novel "L'Image," written by Catherine Robbe-Grillet under the pseudonym Jean de Berg. The story centers on Jean (Carl Parker), an attractive writer who, after reuniting in Paris with his old friend Claire (Marilyn Roberts), finds himself increasingly drawn into a complex power dynamic: Claire is a dominant woman who keeps Anne (the delightful Mary Mendum, known as Rebecca Brooke, who had a romantic relationship with the director during filming) under strict co…
