Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die
8/10 by Sierbahnn May 5, 2026
Highly entertaining and pressing This movie has spectacular casting, top to bottom, a plot that keeps you engaged, memorable and likable characters that makes the tension work, great direction, and a look that feels dynamic and real enough, even when it isn't. The message is poignant too, which is great, but even without it, this would be a grand movie. I highly recommend it.…

This Is Not a Test
6/10 by Sierbahnn May 5, 2026
This works, sort of This is not a great movie, but it builds tension, stays in mostly a single location without feeling cheap, introduces scares and develops characters along the way. The casting is solid, and the direction is good. It is by no means extraordinary, but it has zombies, the zombies are scary, the protagonists are human and act pretty much like humans would, and while this might be forgettable, it is certainly not bad.…

Do Not Enter

This is not Ghost Ship I think this movie wanted to be Ghost Ship, or at least as good as Ghost Ship. It didn't reach there. The characters were engaging enough and the direction solid, but the look of the movie wasn't grand, and the monster just looked floaty and unrealistic, given how it was rendered into the scenes. It just wasn't believable, had no agenda, and no reason. It was just a "scary thing" skulking about.…

The Edge of Seventeen
7/10 by Sierbahnn May 5, 2026
Heartfelt, genuine, and funny The casting for this is grand, the direction is solid, and the story captures the angst of being a poorly communicating and perpetually misunderstood teen. Bad decisions, parents with issues of their own compounding yours, and an adult world that does not vibrate at the same rate as you. This was a fine movie, and I can heartily recommend it.…

Anacoreta

Meta found footage Found footage has to get around the problem of "why are they still filming" and there are various approaches to it. This one takes on a very literal movie-making approach, with all its tropes borrowed from the making of the Blair Witch, and its lesser successors. This movie isn't bad, but it certainly is not as engaging, and thus not as scary, as something which did not delve into its own meta-narrative and would, instead, focus on the actual horror-elements.…

Pretty Lethal
6/10 by Sierbahnn May 5, 2026
It as if Green Room and Gymkata had a baby Let me get this out first - this is a fun movie. It has lovely characters with distinct personalities you can get invested in, an over-the-top antagonist, and I am so happy to see Uma in here, much like Patrick in Green Room, lovely direction and such ridiculous action that you feel yourself waiting for it. Is it a great movie? Absolutely not. But it is a fun an involving little story with such a mad hook for its action that I have to recommend it.…

Bodycam
6/10 by Sierbahnn May 5, 2026
Found footage films are always a bit tricky. You have to establish why the cameras stay on. And a body cam born by a police officer is as good of a reason as any. The characters in this movie aren't bad at all and you feel engaged with their plight. The directing is good and the scenery is spooky. Overall it isn't bad at all. The Nebulous antagonist makes the tension a bit more interesting, and the ending is a trope, but nevertheless a good one. I recommend this if you like found footage.…

The Tingler

There's something to be said about line delivery in horror movies when the lines aren't panicked and screaming, but understated and build tension rather than relieve it. The conceit of this plot is ludicrous, of course, but it is fifties surrealism and it has a meta concept to it, which is very weird and rewarding. The movie is quite a little gem for its genre and I highly recommend it.…

The Haunted Palace
7/10 by Sierbahnn May 5, 2026
Of course it takes places in the village of Arkham. Of course there is a Tillinghast. Of course Mr Ward is Charles Dexter. The story isn't a Lovecraft-story, but it is a bit like "The Thing on the Doorstep" I suppose. Vincent gets to do his thing and the movie is all the better the more room he has. Some of the rest of the supporting cast is weaker, but then again, everyone looks thin and bland compared to Vincent when sharing the screen. Some of the story could have used a bit more polish, but it is a highly enjoyable Lovecraft-moment of a movie.…

Ready or Not: Here I Come
7/10 by Sierbahnn May 5, 2026
The premise of the first movie was deeply silly, really, and if you try to extend it to encompass more people and more places then it becomes a bit convoluted. That does not mean that the movie isn't fun. It is. The characters are engaging, the casting on point and the directing is great. It works despite of what it is and what it is trying to do. I like it.…
