Bello Rashid is the eponymous lady who sees an opportunity to take over the local kiosk in her small Tanzanian town. Thing is - she has HIV, no money and two young children whom she is desperate to see educated and cared for. Going into business for herself could be the best way to achieve that, and so she approaches the local co-op for a loan whilst she tries to persuade "Mahera" (Nkwabi Elias Ng'angasmala) who owns the shop to let her rent it from him. A combination of events now seem to conspire against her as she must juggle her own medical needs with the needs of her family and her aspira…

Tales of Terror
by Dr_Nostromo May 10, 2026
57/100 3 tales inspired by Edgar Allen Poe, this Roger Corman film is good with Vincent Price and Peter Lorre chewing up the scenery. "Morella" - Gothic tragedy of ghostly vengeance that has just the right amount of over-acting and melodrama to make it quite fun. "The Black Cat" - An abusive husband plots the death of his wife and her lover. Lorre's character was too repugnant and the humor was too silly for me to really appreciate this one. "The Case of M. Valdemar" - A man's soul is hypnotized while his body dies is the best story with squishy goodness. Nostalgic fun. -- DrNostromo.co…

Branded to Kill
by deepkino May 9, 2026
Branded to Kill is a supposedly hard-boiled action film that gradually turns into an absurd dark comedy, drifting through disconnected scenes and bizarre imagery. Revolving around a chubby-cheeked assassin obsessed with the smell of boiling rice, the film constantly undermines the conventions of gangster cinema with surreal humor and chaotic energy. Seijun Suzuki transforms what could have been a routine hitman story into a fever dream filled with eccentric characters, strange erotic tension, and visual experimentation. Its fragmented narrative and rebellious style make it feel less like a cri…

American Horror House
5/10 by Sierbahnn May 9, 2026
Competent, but annoying I won't give this a 4 or less because of its mere technical merits. This is a movie, produced like a movie, with a budget, director, and decent enough cast. It is, however, not worth more, as it is a bad plot, with nonsensical "twists" and a mystery that is no fun, and falls apart on its own. The ending is also very very weak. I cannot recommend this movie at all.…

Death Ship
6/10 by Sierbahnn May 9, 2026
Location, location, location Someone scored an old ship, kitted it out, and they made a movie inside of it. That is a very fortuitous way to make a movie, I think. It is a great little movie, very much an 80's flick, but with great characters, arcs that make sense, and tension that builds. It is by no means flawless, but it is a good movie for what it is, and I recommend it.…

Die, Monster, Die!
6/10 by Sierbahnn May 9, 2026
Lovecraftian sci-fi This is all very Lovecraftian, and they do credit him for the story. They lifted elements from several stories, but the 'Color out of space' is the primary one. The plucky American can sort it out through, surely. The mention of cults and things don't get explored to any noticeable degree, and this is more sci-fi horror than cosmic horror, but still with a Lovecraftian vibe. It is a lovely little movie.…

Chamber of Horrors
6/10 by Sierbahnn May 9, 2026
This is clearly part two or three of five The movie feels like it is supposed to be mid-narrative from the start, with established characters that had arcs before this movie, and continue to have them afterwards. In that sense this feels like it is part two or three of a five-part movie series. The movie itself is great, a period piece, and while the "alarm" is sensationalist fluff for the era, and an artifact of its time, it is a bit of fun. The story, direction, casting and visualization is on point here. Well worth a watch.…

The Beast Below
2/10 by Sierbahnn May 9, 2026
This is just cheap Digital assets are cheap now, and that means that anyone can get them, even the ones who can't use them. That makes the overall quality of visual effects worse the more available they become, and this movie is a prime example. Stay away from this one, or you will have wasted your time. It is really that simple.…

And Soon the Darkness
5/10 by Sierbahnn May 9, 2026
Imagine Hostel without the hostel Imagine the movie Hostel, but instead of actually getting to the Hostel, the first ten minutes or so became an entire movie, with pretty visuals, fun casting, no chemistry, fabricated tension, and so much wasted potential. That's this movie. It isn't very good, it isn't riveting or exciting, but it is on par with other such movies. And it has Karl in it, so that's nice.…

Dr. Terror's Gallery of Horrors
4/10 by Sierbahnn May 9, 2026
Poor-mans Nightgallery Rod Serling didn't invent the anthology show or movie, far from it, but this movie is just a far inferior version of what he had put out on TV in the years prior in The Night Gallery (and of course the Twilight Zone before that). This is just a hodgepodge of poorly written episodes crammed together without regard, and it comes off just as bad as you might imagine.…
