Is God Is
2/10 by Brent Marchant May 17, 2026
When movie rating aggregation sites give a film high marks, one should expect that the picture delivers the goods (after all, those grades don’t spontaneously materialize out of thin air). But there are times when a vastly overrated release inexplicably (and undeservedly) gets good grades that leave one perplexed. Such is the case with the debut feature from writer-director Aleshea Harris in this adaptation of her award-winning play of the same name (2018). This unfocused, often-highly repulsive revenge thriller/road trip title with a modern-day Western vibe and Afro punk styling starts out re…

Katyn
7/10 by CinemaSerf May 17, 2026
I'm not sure I've ever seen a war film wherein the Nazis and the Soviets actually tried to hold the other accountable for some of the atrocities in Poland, so this film serves as quite an eye-opener. It's September 1939 and the ordinary Polish citizenry didn't know where to turn. Their cities are being bombed to smithereens and what's left of their armed forces is being easily overwhelmed by their invaders. Initially, it is only the officers who are being detained, with the private soldiers and the families being left largely to their own devices. Gradually, though, it becomes clear that this …

In the Shadow of Kilimanjaro
5/10 by Wuchak May 16, 2026
**_John Rhys-Davies and Timothy Bottoms vs. deadly baboons in Kenya_** This combines the fierce baboons of “Sands of the Kalahari” with the basic setting of “Hatari!” The authentic locations are a highlight as is the use of actual baboons in the attack scenes rather than CGI, which didn’t exist yet in movie technology. “Labyrinth” would be the first film to do that, which came out a year or so later. The addition of Michele Carey is another point of interest. She was one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood in the late 60s/early 70s. This was her final film and, although she’…

Running Man
by Hnin@123 May 15, 2026
Running Man isn't just a TV show anymore; it's a comfort watch. While it may no longer have the frantic pace of its early years, it has matured into a witty, character-driven talk and game show. It’s the perfect "end-of-the-week" remedy that proves you don't need a massive budget if you have a group of people who are willing to look like fools for a laugh.…

The Outlaws
5/10 by REALOldNick May 16, 2026
I gave up hakfway through Series 2. The slapstick and silly factor got too strong. People were just being silly to the extreme, presumably to extract humour. I assume it's not a kids' programme, and I assume even teens have some sort of sophistication.....but hey what does and old fart like me know?…

Pola X
by MAHMOOD • iNKSTECHSHUB STUDIO INTERNATIONAL May 15, 2026
**Pola X** (1999) is a French drama; it's actually a novel by Moby Dick writer Herman Melville with ten sections in probably 1852 novel, Pierre; or, The Ambiguities; and French inspiring director mr. Leos Carax choose to direct it. It is a loose, kinda dark, and unconventional adaptation of mr. Melville's The film follows Pierre (Guillaume Depardieu) who died by car accident, a celebrated, wealthy young writer who abandons his privileged life, his château, and his fiancée after a mysterious woman (Yekaterina Golubeva, wife of Estonia director Sharuna Bartas, she's also dead, sadly) appears cla…

One Hundred and One Dalmatians
8/10 by Vinicius Monteiro May 16, 2026
Have you ever noticed how some older movies have this crazy, vibrant energy—like the drawings are about to jump right off the screen—while others just look like still paintings? Re-watching 101 Dalmatians, I realized it's a movie that definitely divides people, but it undeniably saved an empire. If you're just in it for the nostalgia, you'll have a good time. But if you really pay attention, you can spot the exact moment Disney swapped fairy-tale magic for a grittier, modern vibe. Let's look past the "sketchy" animation style and dive into how a movie about dogs completely changed the history …

Faces of Death
10/10 by hmwalker May 16, 2026
Faces of Death for the social age, where gore and snuff are no longer regulated to behind the counter, illegally-sold Video Nasties, and cult film circles that shared videos around before early internet uploads. (Coincidentally I watch one such tape ‘Grave Robbing For Morons’, which think it a quaint little oddity). Point being, gore is mainstream now. What is shocking anymore? What offends? You can watch a fascist podcaster get slimed in 4K and tune in for your daily dose of live-streamed genocide now. This a movie for the “All Fake” Tiktok caption era. The mentions of Don’t Fuck With C…

I Know Who Killed Me
7/10 by Wuchak February 17, 2026
**_Infamous film starring Lohan is artistic, explicit and inventive_** I watched this movie without knowing any of the controversy behind it, such as Lohan being harassed by the paparazzi during shooting and the corresponding tabloid scrutiny, as well as her legal issues that caused her to be late on occasion or not show up at all. An additional problem is that she had her appendix removed when filming started in Dec 2006, but developed an infection that shut down shooting after a week, which recommenced in Feb-Mar. Add to this the fact that the flick won eight Razzies, including Worst …
