Back in the early 80s when we were still kids and "Star Wars" finally ducked under the Iron Curtain, there was nothing to compare it to. Decades later we learned it was the magic of the gifted post-processing team and the chemistry between the young actors that turned the original Lucas mess into one of the cinema classics of all time. While the 1977 set has now visibly dated, the rest of the movie still holds together because of the human talent that went into it back in the day.…

There are a lot of hungry Confederate soldiers in besieged Richmond, so their colonel "Rossiter" (Richard Widmark) sets his sights on the big herd that Mexican "Kelly" (William Holden) usually delivers to the bluecoats to help solve this problem. "Kelly" has few scruples but he will still take quite some persuading if he is to co-operate - and some dodgy bills with Jefferson Davis on them aren't going to cut it. Just to add to his problems, even if he can procure the cattle the city is surrounded by a well-equipped Union army commanded by "Maj. Stedman" (Patrick O'Neal) and he is expecting the…

To give her her due, "Molly" (Barbara Britton) is full of vim and vigour as she arrives at a remote outpost town to take up a post teaching it's kids. The law has yet to arrive in this place, so they have their own hands-on approach to those who break their fairly simple rules. That's the start of her problems as she meets "Steve" (Sonny Tufts) and the enigmatically monikered "Virginian" (Joel McCrea). The former is mixed up with some castle rustlers and their leader "Trampas" (Brian Donlevy) whilst the latter has been charged with clearing these criminals out of town. He and "Steve" are frien…

Partially entertaining possession flick. Going into it blind, I was expecting more focus on the mummy aspect of things, but that turned out to simply be a surface-level harness around a possession story, that is ditched as fast as it appeared. The plot gets lost in itself towards the 2nd half of the movie and it ends up wishy washing around with classic possession tropes and inevitably ends up falling flat. Overall I was entertained for a good bit, but also bored and annoyed for a significant portion of the movie.…

I enjoyed watching every episode, every secknd. The WONDERfools is an excellent drama, very well made. All the cast members are so good, especially my favorite actor CHA EUN-WOO, he portrayed perfectly Lee Unjeong. Eunwoo so powerful, attractive and charismatic. Everyone should watch the Wonderfools to laugh, see actions and feel each emotion.…

3/10 roentgen, not great, not terrible. The premise is absurd and completely lacking credibility and that shows in the performances - the actors are there to read their lines and be done with it. The worst is, of course, the inconvincing and unrelatable replay by Gosling of what we've seen in another hundred of similar movies. Sci-fi is not his thing, really, neither is hugging. The plot is linear, predictable and truly boring. The brief socio-political excursion into earth politics is also trite, preachy and boring and without nuance. Not even good enough for a long-haul flight.…

Don't watch this as a "thriller", as it isn't thrilling. See it instead as an artistic take on how political corruption destroys everything in its path and does so with a nearly unstoppable force. Excellent and believable performances, great effort to re-create a 70s atmosphere, although the script could have taken a bit more polish.…

From the "Superheroes'r'us" department we get the only "superhero" anything that is watchable. Of course, only so because it is a rather thin and blunt allegory to the modern world and the damage it does to the human character, but still funny, witty and grotesque. The best trick is the way it delivers its sermon through the fate of its characters.
Worth a watch, although not all seasons are of equal quality.…

20 years later, still one of the great movies of the century.
An amazing realistic take on the last days of the failing East German state at a time when the lessons from its deserved demise are being forgotten and propaganda is trying to repaint it as greatness. Interesting script, great performances and direction, deep and multi-layered message.
A must watch.…

Unbearably, tooth-achingly bad.
Now, you can only do so much with a plot of a computer game from the early 90s that has been filmed umpteen times already, but this is a new low.
And a cleaned up, one-dimensional version of Butcher can't save it.
Just no.…
