I feel like i'm rating this film lower if it wasn't a Steven Spielberg production. For the most part it features his usual polish which is above average in most cases. The camera movement and staging is as good as ever. There's even some car chase sequences thrown in to break up the pacing and give this film a jolt of energy and remind us of how much fun Spielberg's action can be.
My biggest complaint is my disconnection with the characters. Everyone of the cast members do a great job with what they have to work with. Unfortunately there's not much to them. Perhaps Jane (Eve Hewson) is the character with the biggest arch but we don't get a lotta time with her. It makes the whole thing run like molasses at times in the middle as they just seem to be checking off the boxes of plot exposition. I also didn't like the cat and mouse play between Noah (Colin Firth) and our two main characters Margaret (Emily Blunt) and Daniel (Josh O'Conner). It's confusing at first, then it makes sense, and then they use it too much to the point it just drags.
The film somehow manages to come together for a roller coaster finale. The sloppy and seemingly rushed threads come together for something that definitely hits hard and is more concentrated and developed than the early parts of the film. I found myself at full attention as the film began firing on all cinematic cylinders for it's conclusion. Overall I'm happy I saw it but it's probably gonna be my only watch for Disclosure. This probably would have worked better as a series so the characters and ideas could be developed a bit more. We do get what could be John Williams' last score, I made sure I stayed for the whole credits roll.
